I'm better at dreaming things up than I am at actually doing anything.

Bob Dylan was a wannabe folk artist. He took melodies from older folk songs, claimed them as his own, and rewrote lyrics.
and btw?
There were plenty of people saying what Bob Dylan was saying at the time. He was just the one who sold out and got famous with his pop-folk.
Lol hating on Bob Dylan, classic.
Thing is: Bob Dylan had always planned on making money from what he was doing, and he knew exactly how he was going about it. He didn’t care about being a sell-out, he cared about making money. And he also didn’t really want to be a “protest” singer/writer either, that just happened to be what made him money. But what’s great about his work is that it actually sent out messages, it made people aware. So, yeah, Bob’s work was important, regardless of the “plenty” of people who were also doing it. What he said meant something to people, and guess what? It still does.
So when you write a song about anything, ANYTHING, and in 40 years it’s still as influential as when you first wrote it, then and only then will you be able to downplay Bob Dylan’s work. Thanks for trying, though.
Oooh, defending Bob Dylan, classic.
I like how you’re saying his attitude was okay because it got out messages anyway. Would you say that about modern-day sell-outs, then? “Oh, they don’t really believe in that, but it’s okay because they make people think!”
Sorry, bro, but as a Performing Arts and Social Justice major with a focus in music, I can’t appreciate Bob Dylan.
And quite frankly? I don’t give a shit if my music is as influential as Dylan’s, because I’m not criticizing how influential his music was- I’m criticizing his attitude and how he didn’t really believe in what he was singing, how he just wanted to make money, and how people think he honestly MEANT those things. He wasn’t a radical. He was just greedy.
You don’t become a musician to earn money.
Thanks for misunderstanding my post, though. <3
L O L thanks for essentially reiterating everything I just said.
“You don’t become a musician to earn money.” Yeah, and I’m sure any musician who’s MADE money would just hand it all back just to say they aren’t a sell-out. Whether or not you agree with how he led his life doesn’t make him any less important in music history than, for example, the Beatles. You want to make the same assumption about them? PLENTY of people in the world write music, plays, movies, articles, entire books on things they really don’t care about, just for money. Being from the 60’s or the 2000’s is irrelevant on the topic.
You can have your opinion, it really means nothing to me, and I’m sure it means nothing to my followers who are being subjected to this. I’m simply defending a post I created.
